Makelike Wallpaper

Concepting, Illustration, Pattern Design

Sway was the second release in Makelike’s “Quarantine Collection,” made up of wallpapers designed from our homes in the first year of the pandemic. Inspired by days spent in the sea, this paper was first drawn by hand and then digitally arranged to create the final design. (Agency — Makelike Design)

Early exploration for Sway included making cyanotype, or “sun prints” from seaweed collected on the Oregon Coast. This time of observation gave me a better understanding of the different shapes and elements that might make up a layered, repeating pattern. As I came back to my studio, I began drawing the plants, arranging and rearranging them until they became the repeating pattern they are today.
